On Monday, March 13, Rob took us all skiing. This was a first time for all of us (except Rob who has been skiing since he was 13 years old!). Needless to say it was quite an experience. I think we spent the first three hours slipping and falling and tumbling down the slopes.
Picture this: Four teens who have never set foot on skates standing at the bottom of a ski lift. Rob has just shown us how to snap on our skis and how to move a couple feet forward towards the lift. He nudges us forward to sit on the lift and up we go. What he forgets to tell us is how to get OFF the ski lift. So when the time comes, one after the other we each climb off the lift only to slip down the ramp and land in the snow. Two or three small children stem off the lift and briskly ski past us (without poles!) glancing back at us as if to say, “They make this look so hard!”
I’m sure it was quite a site to behold; four wipeouts in a row. After a ski lesson, lots of practice, and some extra doses of help from Rob, we were all fairly decent skiers by the end. We had perfect weather for our day of adventure which was essential considering none of us had snow gear. Although bruised and sore, I had an awesome time. I learned not only how to ski, stop, and turn, but also how to be patient, as it is like learning to walk all over again.
