Hey everyone who has been following my life,
After the last letter I wrote many things have happened. When we left Townsend, TN we traveled to Cherokee, NC for a night before going back to Gainesville. However, we only went back to Gainesville for a night. The RV was dropped off and we picked up RAD’s 15 passenger van so we could drive to Atlanta.
While we were in Atlanta the five students and the three staff members stayed in the downtown inner-city. At first when we got in town, I felt really awkward because I’ve never had to deal with a big city since I’m a small-town Iowa boy. I began to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to bring peace to me.
The place that we stayed at and served for about 3 days was called The Eagles Nest. The Eagles Nest is a church that feeds the homeless breakfast and lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, they provide clothes, showers and other important necessities during the rest of the week. While I was there God gave me a new perspective on how I get caught taking so many things for granted. For example: the average American wastes more than half a pound of food per day. I’m not even sure how many pounds that is a year, but it’s a sad sight seeing so many starving homeless.
After we left the Eagles Nest we then went and stayed at a place called the Safe House Outreach (SHO) for about six days, Friday until Wednesday. When we got there, there was another group staying there and doing different jobs. Friday night there wasn’t anything for RAD to do, so we went and hung out as a group in downtown Atlanta. Saturday both groups, RAD and the Shippensburg group, were able to all go to another SHO location and do an outreach for children. Later on that night all of us were invited to do a midnight meal service project that consisted of making food for the homeless and delivering it under the bridge where they lived. We all walked and served the meals from 11:30 pm until about 3:30 am.
My journey here at RAD is just about over and my financial support is still low. As you are reading, RAD is helping me become even more of a servant leader as Christ was on earth. I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for all the prayers and financial support that have came in. If you feel that God has laid it on your heart to sponsor me financially or with prayer while I continue to walk like Christ did, please feel free to send your donations to:
